The Quinte Local Hall of Fame

located inside the Grimm Sap Shanty at the Ameliasburgh Museum

The Quinte Local Maple Hall of Fame was started in the summer of 1994. This display includes photos of the previous inductees, being Ken Holland who was the first President of the Quinte Local in 1966, Burton Hubble who was the first Secretary of the Quinte Local in 1966, Ross & Lois Steed of Sugarvalley Maple in Keene, George & Alice Potter of SandyFlat Sugarbush in Warkworth, also 5 time World Champion Producers, and Odie & Una Grimm, last owners of the Grimm Manufacturing Company in Montreal. This is where the Grimm name for the sap shanty came from.

Inductees for 2007 are:

Jack Evans, journalist for many years, and has shone a positive light on the world of Maple to the local community. Jack kept the general public up to date with the MPAC issue that occurred with Maple Producers all over Ontario about 3 years ago.

Bill Holland, News Director at CJBQ 800 Radio. Bill kept the general public up to date with the MPAC issue that occurred with Maple Producers all over Ontario about 3 years ago.

Peter Thompson, retired from CJBQ Open-Line program. From 1995 until 2005, Maple Syrup Day at CJBQ was due to Peter's efforts. Peter also kept the general public up to date with the MPAC issue that occurred with Maple Producers all over Ontario about 3 years ago. All three reporters were dedicated to reporting about maple for us over the years.

Lyle Vanclief was the Federal Minister of Agriculture as well as the Quinte Local MP. He was very supportive of our Local while Minister. When the ice storm of 1998 hit, sugar bushes throughout Eastern Ontario were devastated. Producers were left not knowing what the future held for them. Lyle showed compassion and support by personally touring woodlots to reassure families that help would come.

Marc & Diane Curle of Campbellford - Marc is a past president of the Quinte Local. Maple has been produced on their farm continuously for several generations. Both Marc & Diane have been quick to adapt to technology changes and are very willing to share information with fellow producers. They have been good ambassadors for the Maple Industry.

Ron & Janice Hubbs - Ron has been producing maple syrup since 1975. Has has served as President of the Quinte Local several times. Ron established a Maple Orchard in 1989 and now some 18 years later, there are more than 1,000 trees in the 10 acre field. He has also hosted the Lake Lodge Masonic Fraternity's Annual Pancake breakfast for 30 years. Janice has been involved with maple since the spring of 1996, hosting school tours at the sugarbush. In 2003 Sweetwater Cabin was opened, a 1830 homesteaders log house originally from Lanark County. It is the Quinte areas only Maple Store. The Hubbs have been involved with the Maple in the County festival since it's inception 6 years ago.

The Official Ceremony for the Maple Hall of Fame will be held on Sunday, May 20th /2007 at 11 am in front of the Grimm Sap Shanty at the Ameliasburgh Museum. Rededication of the sugarhouse and recognition of the museum's Maple Orchard dedication will also take place at this time.
